I made it, all eye jelly intact! As I looked out my home office window this morning, snow glinted in the cast of the street light, birds huddled close on the back yard fence and quite furry squirrel twitched and fanned his tail, surly in celebration of his latest bird feeder raid, I thought. I think I know what the effects of Carbonite feels like.
Bundled, I scurried from the closest parking lot towards Brookens. I cursed the West winds that hollow through campus! My tears tried their best to keep the jelly in my eyeballs from freezing. Thinking back to the day I had to work on campus when Springfield’s actual temperature was -14 on January 30, 2019.
I am thankful that I have the capability for work from home on this wind-driven, very cold day. Kris’ philosophy in life can be summed up in one word: Ubuntu: “I am because we are.” Her teaching pedagogy is one where learning from mistakes can be the most important lessons in education and life, intimidation in the classroom is uncalled for, and bringing another person’s strengths and talents to their forefront is the best reward there is. Kris has over 25 years’ experience working in the Education field, and over 7 years teaching experience. During the summers of 20 she had written work published on the Illinois State Fair’s website informing fair-goers of daily events and special activities.
She is also a proud UIS scholarship donor. While attending UIS, she was awarded the Rosie Richmond Scholarship for Creative Writing. and Master’s degrees in English with a Creative Writing concentration from the University of Illinois Springfield.
